If you remember nothing else from reading this blog, remember this. The biggest gift you can possibly offer your child with SPD is (1) correct posture, (2) a healthy self-esteem, (3) plenty of sound sleep, and (4) adequate daily water intake. The child with SPD typically has low muscle tone and a weak core - both of which are precursors to bad posture later on in life. Healthy self-esteem is a surefire way of ensuring happiness and success in years to come. Adequate rest is essential for the child with SPD to grow and develop, while providing much needed relaxation from sensory overload. And correct hydration offers a myriad of benefits both physically, emotionally and intellectually. While it might not always be possible to achieve (1) to (4) with a child with SPD, it should be kept front of mind at all times.
