Welcome.
I am very pleased that you came to visit. If you are raising a child with SPD, even more so. I know how you feel. I know you are exhausted. There is no end in sight. You are at your whits' end. My hope is that my blog might be of some use to you as you travel your own unique journey with SPD.
I have three sons. Hein-Chris is my eldest and was diagnosed with SPD around his second birthday. By that time, Ruben Charles had arrived and I found myself clawing my way from one day to the next. When I learnt nineteen months later that Ben-Louie was on his way, I was devastated. The jump from one to two boys almost killed me, and the jump from two to three was even worse. Needless to say I suffer chronic fatigue and find little time for myself.

Having said all that, I am so very, very blessed to have my three darling boys (now aged 2, 4 and 6) and to watch them grow. Raising Hein-Chris is by far the most colossal challenge I have ever had to face, and the last six years have transformed me from a high-flying, corporate manager to a pyjama-wearing, housebound gorilla.
Nevertheless I have learnt so much - about SPD (sensory defensiveness) especially - and while I have absolutely no medical training, I have read, researched and observed more than ever before in my life. I hope to share some of what I have discovered - about SPD in particular - with other parents who are pilgrims along the same road I am journeying.

Just a smidgen more about myself. I was born in 1976, matriculated in 1993, and completed my studies around 2000. I have been married to Christoph since 2011, and couldn't imagine this journey without him. I am a (sizable) tad over-weight, watch too much TV, and never exercise. All this will change - soon! On the plus side (no pun intended), I live in an amazingly beautiful coastal town, I've had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mommy since Hein-Chris was born (it's not as easy as one would imagine though), and have access to a brilliant team of medical professionals at my doorstep.
I hope you will enjoy reading more of our blog. It's really - well - my life and experiences for all to see. A giant banner spanning the globe for whomsoever wishes to pay attention. Scary stuff for me. Your comments and feedback are most welcome - always.
Go well. And keep in touch - if you so wish. We'll be here.
